Who should use the CSw SharePoint 2010 Inspector?

I was working on a project migrating documents into SharePoint 2010 and wanted a quick and easy way to look at specific metadata, properties and security for documents. The project was too intense to do anything at the time (there are other tools out there but none did quite what we wanted) so when the project was over I built this up.

What we wanted most of all was to quickly check that:

  • custom properties were being applied (including custom properties not specified in the content type),
  • creator and last modified by user and dates were correct
  • version specific data was correct
  • security was correct
  • the expected documents were being migrated

If you like it and want more features then I'm happy to grow it into something useful!

Features

  • property detail includes (where relevant):
    • Title, Description, Name, GUID, Unique or inherited security?, library versioning, number of items and number of folders in library
    • for library items (listitems)
      • the content typeID and url
      • the SharePoint and custom properties stored in the listitem properties collection
      • for files (SPFile) the SharePoint and custom properties both for the file object and its older versions stored in the file and version properties collections
  • security detail includes
    • for the selcted item: user name and assigned permissions
    • for the site as a whole:
      • full list of users and their unique numeric SharePoint ID
      • full list of cutom permissions and their unique numeric SharePoint ID
  • Want more features? Just ask.
